Merchandise Buyer
The Student Book Store (SBS) is a privately owned college bookstore serving Penn State University in State College, PA. SBS has an immediate opening for a full time Merchandise Buyer/Assistant to the Manager. Key Components of this position are: The ability to identify customer preferences and forecast consumer trends in collegiate merchandise. Determine the proper pricing and supplier(s) for collegiate merchandise. Execute the buying, delivery and receiving cycles of these items. Monitor and manage merchandise stock levels throughout the year. Excellent merchandising skills. Supervise a small staff of employees. Periodic opening and closing of store. Provide leadership and promote excellent customer service practices throughout the store. Other duties as assigned. A successful candidate should possess: Previous retail buying and retail management experience. Bookstore experience preferred. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Strong problem-solving, time management and organizational skills. Working knowledge of basic purchasing software. Basic cash register aptitude. College degree preferred. SBS is a EOE employer.
