Early Childhood Education Coach
*This is a 10-month position scheduled for September - June*
SCOPE OF WORK
The Early Childhood Education Coach will provide coaching and other support for classroom staff based on Practice Based Coaching framework for ensuring high quality teaching and strong child outcomes. The Early Childhood Education Coach will develop relationships with teachers and will develop coaching plans to drive effective teaching practices. This position provides direct support to instructional and administrative staff, and coaches teachers, in the planning, implementation, and use of district approved instructional and assessment strategies for early learning.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide coaching, mentoring and professional development for early learning teachers to enhance and enrich teachers' skills
- Visit classrooms, observes teachers, and provides feedback to improve and enhance instruction and student learning
- Assist teachers in setting goals that support improved instruction
- Model best practices in instruction to build teachers instructional skills
- Support teachers in the use of data to guide instruction and improve learning for each student
- Attend meetings and professional development classes to stay current with early learning trends, practices, and research
- Implement instructional and assessment strategies that honor3 gender, language, culture, ethnicity, special needs and diverse learning abilities
- Monitor implementation of early learning instructional practices and strategies
- Gather, compile, analyze and report findings to assess quality improvements
- Participate in a variety of meetings and workshops
- Convey and or gather information required to perform functions and to remain knowledgeable of trends and best practices
- Prepare written materials (e.g., reports, instructions, guidelines, etc.) to communicate program information, provide written support, document progress, develop recommendations, and evaluate the program
- Respond to program and or teacher/student related inquiries to resolve issues, provide information, and improve student learning
- Plan, develop, and present professional development classes and workshops for teachers, community early-learning providers and support staff using a professional learning community model
- Assist in the identification and development of community resources and partnerships to support alignment of early learning programs, including collaboration with community early learning providers and district staff
- Develop and maintain effective professional relationships and communication with staff, students, families, and community to create a strong collaborative environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Computer literacy using Windows, word processing and spreadsheet software programs to produce work documents; skill with database software generating reports; email programs
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and understanding of "client-centered" support and services
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to include strong evidence of ability to work collaboratively and gain trust and confidence with teachers being coached
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Valid state driver's license and ability and willingness to travel to site locations
- Communicate orally, in fluent English, with staff, families, children, community and the public using the phone and in face-to-face, one-to-one, small and large group settings
- Instruct, lead, train, and facilitate others in a group setting
- Observe, compare, monitor behaviors, record data and determine compliance with prescribed standards
- Comprehend, analyze, and make inferences and recommendations from written material
- Estimate labor and material costs from work plans
- Operate motor vehicle requiring a standard driver's license
- Produce written documents in fluent English with clearly organized thoughts, using proper sentence construction, punctuation and grammar
- Demonstrate ability to use computer and word processing, database and spreadsheet software programs, multi-lined phone, VCR and monitor, camcorder, fax and copier
- Work with preschool children in both a classroom and outdoor setting requiring the ability to walk or run quickly, kneel or sit on the floor, bend, lift, walk over rough or uneven ground, and be exposed to weather
- Sort, alphabetize documents, records and/or files
- Exhibit punctuality and consistent attendance with the target of 95% attendance
- Remain alert and focused at all times and make quick and spontaneous decisions using problem-solving skills and good judgment based on organizational policies and procedures
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have experience working or interacting successfully with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population
- Bachelor's degree with a field of study in early childhood education, education, and/or related fields, which provided skills and knowledge appropriate to or supportive of the position
- Minimum of three years of successful experience teaching in preschool program(s), which provided knowledge of preschool instructional intervention and support programs as well as curriculum and assessment knowledge relative to the program
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree in Early Childhood Education
- Experience working in a Head Start and/or ECEAP program as an Education Coordinator, Manager or Center Director
- Knowledge of CLASS and Teaching Strategies Gold
- Experience teaching in a multi-lingual program where English is spoken by the minority of children and parents

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Hiring for this position is on the condition that candidates meet the following requirements:
Before Starting Work:
- Paperwork indicating negative TB Test or clear chest x-ray
- Proof of Tdap (Pertussis) vaccination
- Show proof of a cleared Portable Background Check from the Washington State Department of Early Learning (NOTE: if you do not have a current PBC, you must first create an account in the DEL's MERIT system by clicking here. The fees for obtaining a PBC are your responsibility. The entire process of obtaining a PBC takes 3-4 weeks. You may not start working until we have a copy of your cleared PBC.)
Within three days of hire:
- Submit proof of US Citizenship or ability to work in US (must show original social security or Alien Registration Card/Work Permit, as well as one piece of picture identification).
- Completion of all pertinent personnel/payroll forms.
Within 60 days of hire:
- Signed statement by a health provider that the employee is free from communicable diseases and physically able to perform job responsibilities.
Condition of continued employment:
- Keep all certifications and clearances in current status
- Complete 15 hours of Professional Development Training each year
