The Nurse Educator
Patient Simulation (Ne) position provides operational and clinical guidance with the design, development and implementation of continuing education programs in support of the mission of CCHA and its Mobile Simulation Program (MSP). The NE position has responsibility for facilitating the partnership between the MSP and the Alliance members, local business partners and other key stakeholders. The position and the program follow the INSACSL standards of best practice as a foundation for the provision of a quality simulation experience that is focused on improving quality outcomes for CCHA member organizations. All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures and guidelines of CCHA.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Responsible for and provides clinical education and support related to the design, development and implementation of training programs and clinical scenarios utilizing the MSP,
- Works with CCHA members to coordinate scheduling, identify training needs and apply research-based practices into learning activities to promote quality education,
- Ensures an appropriate climate for learning by fostering a positive and approachable attitude,
- Assists with the maintenance of records and the requirements of state and local agencies (North Carolina Nursing Association (NCNA), etc.) for the offering and distribution of requirements to distribute continuing education credits. Maintains requirements to provide and distribute CE credits,
- Performs the role of primary nurse planner for NCNA as required for accredited learning activities,
- Participates in work groups for clinically oriented projects within larger projects as needed to provide the services of the MSP for clinicians,
- Responsible for the physical set-up and breakdown of the MSP lab, simulation equipment utilized for education sessions,
- Assists to maintain simulation equipment calibrations, maintenance and minor repairs in-house or with simulation vendor,
- Ability to work flexible hours,
- Serves as clinical resource for non-clinical CCHA staff through team-based initiatives, grant researching and other identified opportunities,
- May include other duties that are supplementary to the role.
Education / Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Master's Degree preferred or willingness to attain in first 2 years in position,
- Prior experience of at least 1 year with clinical simulation,
- CHSE certification, completed within first 2 years,
- Valid Nursing license,
- Experience with and certification to provide: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC),
- Possess valid Driver's License,
- Possess or acquire a Class B Commercial Driver's License.
Experience, Knowledge, Training, and/or Skills Requirements:
- Minimum three to five years in healthcare / clinical setting,
- Minimum of 3 years acute/critical care clinical experience,
- Minimum 3 year's clinical education experience as clinical educator in an acute care setting or academic setting,
- Experience working with professional associations, clinical experts, and task forces a plus,
- Experience with simulation-based learning is a plus. * Knowledge of and/or willing to learn how to operate computerized simulators, correlating software and audio/visual equipment,
- Computer skills: Strong computer skills (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook),
- Cognitive skills: Ability to apply judgment to prioritize work, ability to understand, follow, and recall instructions, excellent analytical and global skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills,
- Interpersonal Skills: The candidate must demonstrate: a professional work ethic; flexibility; strong interpersonal skills; and promote team building relationships with peers, hospital leaders, physicians, clinical staff, vendors, and other key stakeholders.
Physical Requirements:
- Technical / Motor skills: Possesses the physical manual and cognitive dexterity and skill to operate, simulation equipment; set up, breakdown and drive a commercial truck / vehicle,
- Position requires frequent activities related to:
- Lifting / Carrying - up to 50lbs and/or greater
- Pushing / Pulling - up to 50lbs and/or greater
- Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing, crawling and reaching above shoulder level.
