The National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC), located in Annapolis MD, seeks a Systems Administrator (SA) to provide support for all computing resources at the center. The Systems Administrator will work with SESYNC’s Cyberinfrastructure (CI) staff and researchers to assist them in deploying technology to support the mission of the center. The SESYNC Systems Administrator will work with other CI staff to maintain the center’s IT infrastructure, research and administrative workstations, and network. Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies.
Duties to include:
SESYNC is dedicated to solving complex environmental problems by bringing together social, natural and computational scientists to study the interactions between human and ecological systems. The computational requirements for conducting this research present many opportunities and challenges. Over the past six years we have supported researchers engaged in activities such as mapping and analyzing a billion-point dataset and integrating data from millions of demographic surveys with biophysical data. We support about a dozen on-site researchers and 50 off-site teams. All CI staff are encouraged to investigate new technologies they think may be useful or interesting in contributing to SESYNC’s mission.
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
