As a Substation / Apparatus Technician, you will install, operate, maintain, and repair Cooperative line and substation apparatus, SCADA, and load management equipment effectively, efficiently, and safely. You are adept at working with equipment including: regulators, reclosers, transformers, sectionalizers, circuit breakers, and switches. You fully understand system maps, staking sheets, and other work order procedures. When necessary, you are ready to provide supervision that encourages those assigned to you to work effectively, efficiently, and safely in accomplishing the installation, testing, and maintenance of all types of apparatus and substation related equipment. You take pride in providing prompt, efficient, and reliable technical service throughout the Cooperative’s electrical system.
Conduct maintenance in the following areas that include, but are not limited to:
Transformers (including special banks); breakers and reclosers; regulators and recloser control panels; direct current systems for substation equipment; primary and secondary metering; switches and structure; power transformers; R-vac (underground pad mount fuse device); VFI (single-phase and three-phase pad mount sectionalizing device); PWVE (three-phase underground pad mount recloser); automatic transfer switches; underground fault indicators; substation readings and inspections; substation high side fuse holders and air break switches; regulators and OCR bypass switches; mobile transformer; mobile generator; mobile substation; circuit switcher; circuit breaker; capacitor banks and controls.
Additionally, the Substation / Apparatus Technician will:
- Assist with the installation of SCADA and load control equipment and trouble-shoots same.
- Test station apparatus for proper operation locally and/or remotely.
- Phase circuits together.
- Complete substation maintenance.
- Install recording volt meters.
- Install and maintain ground grid.
- Test oil-filled equipment for PCB contamination.
- Properly take oil samples for third-party testing.
- Prepare damaged equipment for proper disposal.
- Understand procedures for back-feeding substation(s).
- Take a substation off line and/or put one on line.
- Properly troubleshoot and make recommendations to place substation back online following an unexpected event.
- Troubleshoot three-phase banks (Wye and Delta).
- Operate primary underground fault locator equipment (Thumper).
- Ensure that adequate safety supplies and equipment are maintained at all times on the vehicles for which he/she is responsible.

Substation / Apparatus Technicians must be able to perform hard physical labor whenever it is necessary. Routinely, you will travel to various locations throughout the Cooperative’s service area to complete many work assignments. Your residency must be within 60 minutes legal driving time to the District Office where you are assigned.
